‘Old People’s Home for 4 Year olds’ – the benefits of an intergenerational approach
Zoe Wyrko worked in a nursing home while at school and university, and still regards this experience as one of the most important and formative ones of her career. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2000, and worked as a Consultant Geriatrician at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for over 10 years. During that time she developed and implemented system based services to improve the care of older people by promoting early, multidisciplinary specialist assessment. She remains as clinical lead for the Birmingham and Solihull Ageing Well programme, working with partners to develop an integrated care and health model across a 1.25 million population.She is a visiting Professor at Aston University, and was a subject matter expert on the award-winning Channel 4 series Old People's Home for 4 Year Olds™ and also appeared in The Restaurant that Makes Mistakes™. She has recently taken up a new role as Well-being Director at Riverstone.
