Kay Cox

CEO, Signature Care Homes

With more than 20 years of experience in senior leadership roles, Kay boasts a proven track record across the retail, travel, and healthcare sectors. A trusted and results-driven executive, Kay has developed a reputation for change management, exceptional multi-site leadership, innovation, and strategic insight throughout her dynamic career.

For the past five years, Kay has been a board member of the leading luxury care provider, Signature Senior Lifestyle, joining as Chief Operating Officer in 2018 and serving as Chief Executive Officer since August 2023.

Her time at Signature has been characterised by an unwavering focus on providing the highest standards of care, advocating for the care workforce, and developing innovative solutions to sector wide challenges.

This includes developing Signature’s industry leading up to 30 days of paid leave entitlement for all home-based teams; introducing a flexible employment contract, which has achieved a 96% team member retention rate; and the introduction of the Signature Care Team App, transforming internal communications.

However, it is her work on resident safety that is having the greatest impact. Throughout 2023, Kay created Signature’s ‘Safety Monitoring’ proposition, oversaw a successful technology pilot which received universal support, and signed an industry-first partnership with Care Campaign for the Vulnerable. The technology will now be rolled out to all Signature care homes, an industry first.

Before joining Signature, Kay was Managing Director for Southern & East England at Bupa UK, (2013 to 2018), where she was responsible for 52 care homes, more than 2,600 residents and a 5,000-strong workforce.

Before embarking on a career in the care sector, Kay held a number of roles in the retail travel industry. This includes Regional Sales Manager at TUI UK and Ireland (2008 to 2013) and as Head of Sales and operations at Going Places/Thomas Cook Group PLC (2004 to 2007).
