Claire Webster
Claire joined SCIE in 2022 and works within SCIE’s Safeguarding Team. Claire leads on information, guidance and practical support with implementation of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and looking ahead at Liberty Protection Safeguards and Mental Health Act reforms, also a member of the National Mental Capacity Forum.
Claire is a qualified Social Worker and Best Interests Assessor with over 14 years experience working with adults across adult social care including transitions, older people, people with mental health needs and more recently specialising in the support needs of Autistic people and people with Learning Disabilities. Before joining SCIE, Claire being was the lead for implementation of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards in North Yorkshire, co-producing resources and information and also guest lecturing at the University of York. Claire also leads on Human Rights based practice, having presented at a number of conferences and local government events. Claire has also written for Community Care and SCIE on Human Rights based practice.
Claire recently supported BBC Panorama with Safeguarding guidance and information relating to their recent care home investigation and has written blogs in relation to Safeguarding practice in care homes.
