The Time is Now For a Homecare Revolution

Workforce and Recruitment
Amrit Dhaliwal discusses how there’s a quiet – and long overdue – revolution coming to the homecare sector. At UK Care Week, Amrit will discuss:
- The image of care must be transformed from instead being a ‘distress purchase’ to something we plan for and feel positive about
- Thinking this way will make care an increasingly attractive proposition for those looking to build a long-term career in care
- It will also make it more inclusive and attract younger people who will want to play a part in shaping the industry
- There needs to be greater emphasis on making care fun for both clients and carers, and on quality over quantity service provision
- Mindsets need to change: carers must be treated as the skilled professionals they are, with appropriate wages, greater work/life flexibility, a focus on continued professional development, and presented with clear career opportunities and pathways
- By achieving this, we will attract and retain the best carers who feel valued and want to invest their time and energies on building a life-long career, and give greater confidence to those needing to access homecare services
- The time is now for a homecare revolution and, in Amrit’s view, it can’t come soon enough.
